The purchase of a new cosmetic is usually preceded by information on digital platforms. We don’t only read about the given brand, but also getting to know the ingredients of the products and any opinions that may have formed play an important role.A designer packaging combined with a good price/performance ratio can easily become the center of attention.
The JimJams Serum line series has all these features, but how about getting a closer look at the process and background of product development?

What is your involvement in product development?
My main tasks in product development include the selection of active ingredients and functional materials, formulation of products, preparation of laboratory samples, coordination of user testing, and management of impact tests with the cooperation of external accredited laboratories and/or university research institutes. I have been lucky to have been involved in cosmetic product development, product documentation and product launch tasks for more than 16 years.
How did the development of serums go?
After compiling the initial recipes, formulation laboratory mixes were carried out in our own development laboratory, in which we adjusted the “character” of the products, i.e. texture, color, smell, pH, viscosity and skin sensation characteristics (absorption, softness, touch). Microbiological and stability tests were performed with selected laboratory mixing samples, and then it was checked whether the formulas were adequately protected by the preservative system. Customer tests related to the use were carried out by the company’s employees on a voluntary basis. A dermatological examination is usually performed to test the irritant effect of the product.
What was the main consideration when developing serums?
We needed innovative formulas that could provide a spectacular improvement in skin condition and skin beautification effect after a few weeks of regular use, fit well with current trends and, last but not least, be competitive against competitors currently available on the market.
How is the selection of the right active ingredient? Why did these active ingredients get into serums?
The “message” formulated at the start of development determines what type of active ingredient we can think of. The primary consideration is to select active ingredients with well-documented expected effects, which can be safely used in products and with which an appropriate price/value ratio facial care product can be designed. It is also necessary to consider what makes the new formula more special than its competitors, whether a new combination of active ingredients is available to ensure a synergistic effect, or whether there is a safer, more photostable active substance to achieve the given goal.
Where do you get the raw material from? What do you consider important?
JimJams serums are made with state-of-the-art ingredients free of irritating ingredients and free of animal testing. We mainly buy raw materials from foreign manufacturers, but there are also some Hungarian producers. In order to remain competitive, raw material manufacturers are placing increasing emphasis on processing raw materials from sustainable farming and developing sustainable production methods such as fermentation.
Where do you manufacture serums?
JimJams serums are manufactured in our own cosmetics manufacturing facility in accordance with ISO 22716 Good Manufacturing Practices for Cosmetics (GMP). During the development of the modern factory in Dunakeszi, energy saving was given special attention. The complete plant and warehouse are equipped with state-of-the-art LED lighting, state-of-the-art machines and equipment. The hot water required for the production of cosmetics is provided by solar collectors placed on the roof of the building, and we try to use as much recycled materials as possible during the packaging of the products. Last but not least, since the product is manufactured in Hungary, its packaging and movement cause significantly less environmental impact and pollution than when the product manufactured abroad is transported into the country.
Do you use any special features when implementing product packaging?
The serums are packed into exclusive pipette vials in a clean shape, making pipette caps easy to dispense the serum.
What characterizes the components?
We consider it important that the ingredients are designed into the products in quantities that are well tolerated by the skin. Animal tests were not carried out on the raw materials and finished products used for the production of serums. Our products are made from the most up-to-date raw materials, we use less and less raw materials of animal origin and mineral oil derivatives.
Can serums be applied to sensitive skin?
Yes. We strive to use irritant and allergenic ingredients in ever smaller amounts to prevent unwanted skin reactions. The oriental-floral scented argan plant stem cell serum contains an allergen-reduced fragrance, while the others are fragrance-free products. The active substance in NG Retinol+ serum is a completely safe, non-irritating, stabilized next-generation retinol alternative that is well tolerated by sensitive skin around the eyes when used twice daily, according to clinical studies. However, the use of the renewing AHA acid serum requires special care, because even less sensitive skin may experience mild tingling sensations and redness, which are natural reactions of the skin. If discomfort does not decrease, remove the product with lukewarm water and discontinue use.
Who do you recommend JimJams serums to?
With JimJams serums, we offer solutions for a variety of skin problems. We recommend it to all those whose skin has a loose structure, wrinkled, dehydrated, lost elasticity, who would like to refine and tighten the facial contour, smooth out surface, thin lines, refine wide pores, renew pigmented skin or improve acne-prone skin.
Do you have a favorite among the 4 serums?
I couldn’t choose, I like each one for different reasons.
Why do you think it is important to use serum in facial care?
Serums are great products because they absorb quickly and have a high content of active substances. After cleansing, toning or occasional exfoliation, it is recommended to apply them to clean skin, always before applying the cream. . Serums can be layered to your liking, helping to enhance the effect of moisturizing and regenerating creams applied after them. First, the water-based serum (e.g. argan) should be applied, then after its absorption a few drops of the oily serum (e.g. Q10 or Retinoid serum) can come, depending on the skin condition, and as a final step, apply a care cream corresponding to the active ingredient concentrate used in the previous step.
