Taking care of our skin is essential throughout the year, but during the summer, it becomes even more crucial due to the additional harmful effects on our skin.
Strong sunlight, along with chlorinated and salty water, can be harsh on sensitive skin, so we need to pay even more attention to protection and regeneration. The first and most important step is to protect our skin from harmful UV rays, as they can lead to premature aging, pigmentation spots, and even skin cancer. From spring to early autumn, we should make sure that our daily face cream contains at least SPF 15, but when heading to the beach, it's better to opt for products with SPF 30 or 50. Apply sunscreen 15-20 minutes before sun exposure to ensure full protection, and reapply every two hours or after swimming. If we happen to get sunburned, use creams high in antioxidants and cooling properties to help the skin regenerate.
When applying sunscreen, many forget the sensitive skin of the lips, which can easily get sunburned as well. It's worth using a lip balm with at least SPF 15 when going out in the sun.
Once we’ve achieved our desired tan, exfoliating regularly can enhance it and help prevent patchy tanning. Use a body scrub once or twice a week, but avoid doing so right before or after sunbathing. Don’t forget to exfoliate your face regularly as well, since the warm, humid weather makes pores more visible, so an additional exfoliation session may be needed weekly.
To refresh our skin and keep our face hydrated throughout the day, always carry a moisturizing facial mist with you! Not only will it hydrate your skin, but its cooling effect will be a relief during hot weather. Just be sure to choose a product that’s alcohol- and fragrance-free; thermal water sprays are the best for this purpose.
If you place the mist in the fridge for a few hours before using it, it will cool you down even more effectively!
In the heat, it’s best to avoid heavy makeup, as it can clog pores, especially when mixed with sweat, leading to breakouts. Instead of foundation, opt for a light BB cream or tinted moisturizer – often, we don’t need as much coverage as we think. A mineral powder with SPF is usually enough. If you use lipstick or gloss, make sure they also contain sunscreen.
