What is your role in product development?

My main tasks include selecting active and functional ingredients formulating the products preparing laboratory samples coordinating user tests and managing efficacy studies in collaboration with accredited external laboratories and university research institutes. I consider myself fortunate to have spent more than sixteen years working in cosmetic product development product documentation and tasks related to product launches.

How did the development of the serums take place?

After putting together the initial formulations we carried out laboratory mixing in our own research lab where we set the character of the products such as texture color scent pH viscosity and skin feel including absorption softness and pleasant touch. The selected samples were then tested for stability and microbiological safety and we checked whether the preservative system protected the formulas effectively. Volunteer employees of the company performed the user tests. Dermatological safety testing is also part of the process to evaluate potential irritation.

What was the main focus when developing the serums?

We wanted innovative formulas that would deliver visible improvement and beautifying effects within a few weeks of regular use that would fit current trends and also remain competitive with similar products already available on the market.

How do you choose the right active ingredients and why these specific ones?

The development starts with defining the message which determines the types of active ingredients we consider. The primary criteria are ingredients with well documented and proven effects that can be used safely in the products while still allowing us to create consumer friendly skincare at the right price point. We also consider what makes the new formula special compared to its competitors whether a new synergistic combination is available or whether there is a safer or more photostable option for the intended purpose.

Where do your ingredients come from and what do you consider important?

JimJams serums are made with modern ingredients that are free from irritants and animal testing. Most ingredients come from international suppliers although we work with some Hungarian manufacturers as well. To stay competitive raw material producers increasingly focus on sustainable sources and sustainable production methods such as fermentation.

Where are the serums manufactured?

JimJams serums are produced in our own cosmetic manufacturing facility according to the ISO 22716 Good Manufacturing Practices standard. Our modern plant in Dunakeszi was designed with a strong focus on energy efficiency. It features state of the art LED lighting advanced machinery and equipment. Hot water used during production is provided by solar collectors on the roof and we aim to use a high proportion of recycled materials for packaging. Another important point is that since the products are made in Hungary their packaging and transportation have a much lower environmental impact than imported products.

Do you use any special features in the packaging?

The serums are filled into elegant minimalist dropper bottles which make dosing easy and precise.

What characterises the ingredients?

Our products are made from the most modern raw materials using fewer and fewer animal derived ingredients and mineral oil derivatives. It is important that the ingredients are included in a concentration that the skin can comfortably tolerate. Neither the raw materials nor the finished products are tested on animals.

Can the serums be used on sensitive skin?

Yes. We aim to minimise irritating or allergenic components to prevent unwanted reactions. The argan stem cell lifting serum has a reduced allergen fragrance with warm and floral notes while the others are fragrance free. The NG Retinol Plus serum uses a completely safe non irritating stable new generation retinol alternative which according to clinical studies is well tolerated even by the sensitive eye area when used twice daily. The AHA five percent exfoliating serum however requires more caution because even less sensitive skin may experience mild tingling or redness which are normal reactions. If the discomfort persists rinse with lukewarm water and stop using the product.

Who do you recommend the JimJams serums for?

JimJams serums offer solutions for many skin concerns. They are recommended for anyone whose skin is loose wrinkled dehydrated or lacking elasticity for those wishing to refine and lift facial contours smooth fine lines minimise enlarged pores renew unevenly pigmented skin or improve acne prone skin.

Do you have a favourite among the four serums?

I could not choose. I like each of them for different reasons.

Why do you think serums are important in skincare?

Serums are wonderful products because they absorb quickly and contain a high concentration of actives. After cleansing toning and occasional exfoliation they should be applied to clean skin before moisturising. They can be layered depending on preference. Use a water based serum first such as the argan serum then after it absorbs follow with a few drops of an oil based serum such as Q10 or Retinoid and finish with a cream that complements the active used.
